To select a single object

Click on the object.  Handles appear on the border of the object.

To deselect a single object

Click on another object displayed in the Screen Editor, or click on the desktop of the Screen Editor.

Tips

When selecting a group box, click on the border of the group box.

Use the tab key to move the selection to the next child of the same parent.  The order of tabbing in the Layout Editor does not necessarily correspond to the tab order in the resulting ESL program.

To select multiple objects

Press the Shift key, and click on each of the objects you want to group together.

To deselect an object from a multiple selection

Press the Shift key, and click on the selected object.

Tips

To select as a group the children of the selected object, click Select on the Edit menu.  Click All Children.

To select as a group the siblings of the selected object, click Select on the Edit menu.  Click All Siblings.

Use the tab key to move the primary selection to the next object in the group.

In a multiple selection, one of the objects in the group is the primary selection or reference object.  A solid handle marks the primary selection while hollow handles mark the other objects or secondary selections in the group.

To change the primary selection in a group

Click on the object you want to become the primary selection.

Tips

Primary and secondary selections are used in Group operations.

The appearance of the handles is based on what color you've chosen for highlighted text and for the selection highlight for your system.
