If you specify the keyword solid in a shape statement, ESL fills the shape with color. If solid is not specified, only the boundaries are drawn.

 

In the case of a solid shape with a single boundary whose drawing statements do not cross each other, ESL draws a single boundary and fills it with color, as shown below:

In the case of multiple boundary specifications in a single shape statement, ESL draws all the boundaries and then fills the shape so that no boundary has filling on both sides. The following shapes have at two boundaries, and are filled as shown:
