ESL Documentation

After you create a SAM, you can save it to a file on disk with its current name or with a new name. When you save a SAM, DB/Assist stores the following in a binary file in an internal format:

All SQL statement text contained in the SAM

Information about all ESL variables referenced in the SAM

Information about the current state of the SAM, such as which SQL statements DB/Assist can compile

There are two ways to save SAMs in DB/Assist:

Select SQL Access Module Ø Save or the Save button to save a SAM with its current name.

Select SQL Access Module Ø Save as to save a SAM for the first time, or to save an existing SAM with a new name.

The following sections describe these methods.
